Welcome to the 3-D beaded poodle pattern instructions! If you have any difficulty following this tutorial, please post a comment at the bottom of the page on which you are stuck, and I'll do my best to help!

Before you begin ...
Materials: 2.5 meters of fishing line. 137 round or polygonal plastic beads of desired size (or seed beads for a smaller poodle); these round beads are divided up as follows: 25 beads will comprise the poodle's head, 2 beads for his eyes, 20 beads for his two ears, 1 bead for his mouth, 30 beads for his chest, 15 beads for his torso, 30 beads for his bum, 4 beads for his tail and 12 beads for his 4 legs. In addition to the 137 round beads: the poodle's nose should be a size 6 black seed bead (E-bead), to make it smaller than the beads used to make the rest of the body. If E-beads are used to make the whole body, use a smaller seed bead to make the nose, such as a size 11 seed bead. There are also 5 pony beads to be added to the tail and the 4 legs. In these pattern instructions, the following colour scheme is used: the head is green beads, the eyes and nose are black beads, the mouth is a red bead, the right ear is blue beads, the left ear is orange beads, the chest is pink beads, the torso is blue beads, the bum is orange beads, and the legs and tail are yellow round beads and pink pony beads.
Time required: 1-2 hours
Techniques: Beadweaving, right angle weave
Difficulty: Easy (should be able to do Hello Kitty)

Step 1 : Welcome to the beaded poodle instructions!! This is the first ever beaded animal pattern done using diagram instructions!!! The diagrams are drawn in adobe illustrator, and the instructions for drawing this type of diagram can be found on our forum's diagram thread. I'm still working on the diagrams, but I've decided to go ahead and give you guys a preview and ask if they look clear and understandable!! Please comment!
The first diagram is showing the top view of the poodle's head, including the eyes and nose. The ears have not been added yet (see step 2 for adding the ears). Although the nose is shown in the diagram to help orient you, in step 1, we are not going to be beading the nose into the pattern. That occurs in step 2. (more detailed instructions coming soon!! still drawing the diagrams....)

Step 2 : In this step of the poodle pattern, we are still looking down at the top of the poodle's head from above him (same view as previous step). However, now the view of the top of his head is obstructed by the view of his ears, which are branching off of beads 6 and 7 (no other connection to the top of his head). (Is it okay that I used a different numbering system for the two diagrams?? I didn't want the numbers reaching sky high, so I started back at 1 for the 2nd diagram...).

| I have fixed the problem by putting all the pictures on the same side. I hope it doesn't inconvenience anybody! Actually, to me, it looks more organized this way anyways. | |||

| Holy crap, no wonder you guys are having trouble understanding the diagrams. I had no idea that internet explorer was making them overlap each other. I use firefox instead of internet explorer just because it displays things properly... I should remember to check how things look in internet explorer more often. I hate it! | |||

| Hi Alissa! Of course I am going to post the body later!! LOL! I'm still working on it, but I thought I'd post what I have so far and see what the public opinion is. LOL... apparently mixed reviews! CJ, I am going to explain every step of the diagram in words. To show you an example of a diagram pattern that is fully explained, check out the Pearl Necklace Pattern from the jewelry page of this site. | |||
